Dear Mr. Meredith:

I think your sarcastic letter from last Friday was just plain silly. A number of us travelled with Mr. Voller throughout the state taking pictures and notes as he addressed Democrats.

He worked on the election in Pittsboro and Chatham County because he was practicing what he had preached when he encouraged all members of the state’s executive council to focus on elections up and down the ballot in their home counties and districts. I think even you would have to admit that the elections here in Chatham County turned out quite well for Democrats.

His efforts with the “Blue Ballot†across the state were certainly successful in electing five out of six statewide candidates in the judicial races.

If you are curious about his thoughts about Chatham County after the election, this is what he posted on his Facebook page:

In the midterm election of 2014, Chatham County again finished at or near the top in voter turnout across the state. Congratulations to voters and political volunteers of all stripes. This speaks well of the local activism that is evident in Chatham County.

Many know that I have served as the state Democratic Party’s Chairman since February of 2013. In that time, I have visited over sixty counties in our great state.

During speaking engagements I like to engage the audience by asking them to turn to a person near them and say, “Neighbor, you are a Democrat just like me, and we have a common opponent it’s the GOP”.

Notice that I said “opponent” and not “enemy”.

I know that my friends, family, and neighbors who are Republicans care about the community just like I and my Democratic friends do. Although we have differing perspectives on the issues, and various paths of reaching goals, I’m confident that we all care about our community and want the best for it.

I didn’t support Senator-Elect Tillis, but I want him to succeed in a positive and affirmative way for North Carolina and America just like I know that our citizens and candidates-elect can unite to work on governing Chatham County in a positive and affirmative way for all of our residents.

Good luck to Commissioners Bock and Stewart and thank you for your hard work on behalf of the citizens.

May the new board of Crawford, Cross, Hales, Howard and Petty deliver for the people of Chatham County and the region.

Democratically Yours,
Randy Voller
Chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party
