Reminder about Classified posts

This is a friendly reminder (again) that no matter when you send in a classified post it will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist. Please do NOT email me asking where your classified post is. It will not appear until the Friday Chatlist. If you send in your classified post on Friday AFTER the classified chatlist has already gone out, guess what? You classified post will NOT appear until the FOLLOWING Friday's Classified Chatlist.

If you get an automated receipt after you send in your post that means we HAVE received your post. Regular emails are posted within 24 to 48 hours. Of course, classified posts will NOT appear until the Friday chatlist.

The Friday Classifieds are very popular and it's not unusual to have over 30 to 40 items on the list. Do NOT email me about a missing post unless you have double checked the chatlist again.

The general rule of thumb is that you can post the same service or the same items twice in a row or twice in a month.
Please adhere to this rule. It also helps a lot if you use some descriptive text in your heading besides FOR SALE ie used TV for sale, yardwork services, Queen-Size Bed and lots of other household stuff

Last item! Please remember that the Classified Chatlist is a FREE and popular community service. Neighbors like dealing with neighbors and it's nice to buy stuff or services from folks you "know". Following certain guidelines makes it a better experience for us all.

  Three things to respond to:
#1: to the person who tried to donate to Habitat..you can also donate computer items (& othe stuff) to the PTA thrift shop..I have never known them to turn down a donation, and they also will give you a tax slip for filing.  Might want to try them next time..all money goes to the schools.
#2: to the person who complained about the trash around the convenience store on the circle.  We have a small business across from the convenience store 3 blocks down fr/the circle, and trash is a never ending problem there.  to add to it, we are constantly out of town with our job, so it builds up quickly. I pick up what I can, but it is very time consuming (the other day, I spent almost three hours picking up around the laundry, which is where our office is located..in the back.).  It would be nice if everyone used the receptacles, but who knows, maybe it's just too hard to do.  We also have a problerm, too, with people who use the dumpster behind the laundry for personal garbage..this dumpster is OURS, and yet half the time, people have cleaned out their cars into it, jjust generally dumped their trash, etc.  And the dumpsters are NOT inexpensive.  We are now just considering taking it out, but are afraid that folks will start tossing the trash into the creek there if  we do.
#3: TO ALL ASBURY FOLKS:  JD (our local recycling center attendent)is in the hospital with pneumonia, and his wife passed away the other night.  I understand there is a donation site set up to help offset costs, but am unsure who is handling this..if you'd like to make a donation, maybe Clark (the other attendent) could tell you where or who to go.  My understanding is that medical costs have really eaten in to what finances they did have..I do not know the details on his wife's service, but the newspaper will most likely list the service particulars.

  Thanks: D Bair

Subject: Trash

People have dumped old tires on my property , in addition to the typical junk food wrappers, soda cans, beer bottles, etc.  I have to say the high point was when a very large vehicle drove through my front yard, across the driveway, and into some trees, leaving behind their front bumper and grill (and some ruined sourwood trees).  I periodically pick up the trash along my road, but there is always more, and Chatham dump will only take so many tires from an individual.  I still don't know what to do with the bumper.  Some people are just inconsiderate pigs.

Subject: fluorescent light bulbs

Jeff Lane berates me at some length for my comments about compact fluorescent light bulbs although he agrees that my math is correct.  Unfortunately he exaggerates the savings also.  I doubt very much that he has 30 100 watt light bulbs burning 5 hours a day.  That would add up to 450 Kilowatts/month at a cost of about $45, a VERY high figure.  I have 20 bulbs myself but six are cpfs and most are less than 100 watts.

In fact I started out by saying "They seem like a good idea but the savings is much less than stated."  I'm buying some more today.

A reminder to the community for those who are having trouble giving away their equipment.

Through the Chatham Chatlist, I have found a neighbor (close by in Chatham
Development) who has a computer business.  He accepts donations of old computers (outdated is fine; we donated ours from 1998), cleans the hard drive, puts new software in, upgrades memory when possible, and donates these to families who otherwise can't afford a computer.  I think it is a great service.  So, I am telling you this for 3 reasons

1-in case you need computer help at any point 2-if you have an old computer that you can't use any more 3-If you know of a family who could use a computer, but can't afford one

Subject: Elder Carrie Bolton Occasion

To all those who read the article on Elder Carrie Bolton in the Chatham County

Line, please note there has been a change in the date of the tributary occasion her friends

have planned for her.  The new date is March 17, 2007, 5 PM at Horton Middle School

Multipurpose Room in Pittsboro. The speaker for the occasion is the erudite Reverend

Dr. William Barber, President of the NC State NAACP.

Elder Bolton has devoted much of her life to enhancing and protecting the quality of life in Chatham

County for all of its citizens, young and old, irrespective of race, ethnicity or creed. For her efforts

over the years, Elder Bolton has received many plaques and accolades locally, nationally and

internationally   However, the affair on March 17 is uniquely special
because then she

will receive the honor and tribute of the people who love her most and the people she

holds most dear, the people of Chatham County.

This is a community affair, tickets will not be sold.  Instead, we ask for donations to assist Elder

Bolton in building her new church and your goodwill and best wishes for her safe keeping.  Hope to see you.

Re trash on roadsides: we used to live in a state where there was a mandatory deposit on bottled and canned beverages. It was a mild nuisance to collect them and return them to get your money back. However, not only did most people keep their own empties, but if they didn't, the homeless were immediately on hand to load up trash bags and pushcarts with castoffs, and make a few bucks for themselves. I understand bottled water is exempted now, but soda and beer
containers still require a 5 cent deposit.   Dr. John Shillito

Subject: Kathy Oddenino Seminar - Feb. 25

Happy 2007!

Kathy Oddenino's Spiritual Philosophy theme for her 2007 events is Hidden
Memories:  Understanding our Personal Internal Energy Fields.  Her first seminar is Sunday, February 25, 9am-5pm: The Dual Soul Structure and Function of
Memory: Negative and Positive Twin Soul, Spirit, Karmic Energy, and ESP and Mental Reflections.

The seminars will be at The Rigmor House in Chapel Hill:(http://www.rigmorhouse.com/). The seminar cost is $125, and includes a handout and a delicious organic lunch (Ask anyone who has attended!). Call us to register, or if you have questions - 919-545-9937. Everyone is welcome.  You will be surprised at what you will learn!

http://www.kathyoddenino.com/
Spiritual Philosophy is simply the knowledge that defines the design of us as human beings.  We all have hidden memories that are stored in the neurons until they become so intense that we must acknowledge them, simply to continue with our physical lives.  When we understand that we are living as the energy of all of our past lives mingled into a single pattern of experience, we begin to understand how we can produce bizarre thoughts within our lives.  We will learn and understand these experiences, thoughts that are challenging us, and why they can explode into an intense confusion, as a full-blown psychosis, and/or physical disease, until we understand what they mean to us.
