Chatham County has started an Inclusive/Adaptive Basketball program called Journey League.
Journey League is an amazing opportunity for kids, 13 and over, with intellectual disabilities to interact, socialize and be a part of a team. All abilities and ages over 13 are welcome. Although basketball is what will bring us all together, the focus is more on creating a space for our kids to interact. They do not need previous experience, and we encourage both girls & boys to join.
The inaugural season will be 6-weeks long starting on Friday, June 21st through July 26th from 6: 30pm-8pm.
Our coaches are amazing and excited to work with our children. We will need additional Volunteers so if you have teenagers or Young Adults interested in playing along have them reach out to me. Our kids seem to respond best when their peers are involved. Orange County Residents are also welcome.
There are 3 other locations in NC: Apex, Garner, & Wake Forest. Pittsboro will be the first in Chatham County. They arrange for our teams to play half-time in high school and college half-time games. Journey League has played at Holly Springs & Apex High Schools as well as ECU, APP State, NC State, UNC, Duke, UVA and many more. ESPN/ESPN2 have aired our half-time games, it’s truly an incredible organization.
