While it is good information not to feed cat communities in general without any guidance, please find out more details about the situation before making incorrect assumptions. My original post was a feeler to see what/if resources may be available in the area. I have been in contact with rescue organizations to get the cats TNR’d (trap, neuter/vaccinate, release) and the social ones re-homed – they have specifically asked that I keep feeding the feral cats that are released. Resources (webpages, rescue sites, shelters, etc.) are checked for the social animals prior to re-homing to ensure an owner is not looking for them. Since I have lived in the area (6yrs) there has been a regular influx of new cats, a majority of them seem to have been previously owned and for whatever reason are now on their own – I am more concerned about these cats vs the truly feral (and thus, unadoptable) ones since they generally do not know how to survive once in an unfamiliar area. As originally stated, I do not want to cut anyone off abruptly and am trying to plan ahead in that event. I have asked CARE (Chatham Animal Rescue and Education) if they have anyone in Siler City who may be able to take this on and they currently do not, so they have asked me to reach out through various sources to see if there may be someone who can.
