Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, CPI pulled the wool over some folks’ eyes with how good they’d be for everybody. Getting the NC DOT to take their neighbors’ land for a parkway instead of putting it in Chatham Park, Tim Smith and Preston Development out of Cary are not acting so neighborly now. Even though the community raised concerns about changing the parkway route at a public hearing in January, Brandon Jones with the DOT probably knew they would follow CPI’s plans anyway. It was most likely a “done deal” all along even though they accepted public comment.
Those already living near Chatham Park will be the ones to suffer most. Putting in houses the average worker in Chatham may not be able to afford, Chatham Park Investors keep calling themselves a work play live development, when instead they’ll pay off the town to put houses that fit the budget of a medical worker or teacher somewhere else, not on their land. The cost of living and property taxes will continue to go up with the influx of people who can buy their property while locals get traffic and destruction of the scenic beauty we loved. Streams and the watershed of the Haw are impacted by this mega development. Chatham Park is proving to be a bad neighbor.
