An idea that has been voiced a few times in the past is to split the county. Lee was once part of Chatham. Divide it at the river, Siler City could become the county seat, leaving Pittsboro the seat for the other. Who stays the name “Chatham” could be left to the State to decide. There is a procedure/process for doing this.
