New Health Crisis (Part 2): Potential benefits, and how to benefit

Part 1 (Chatlist #6845) introduced our 2nd County Health CRISIS, Structural Racism.  Upcoming County policies will create benefits.  Maybe free health clinics?  Health stipends?

Could you lose financially?  Milwaukee has a “Racial Equity Budget Tool” for their CRISIS.  It looks to hire interns via Univ of Wisconsin’s Department of Africology.  Jobs matter!  Could there be Chatham taxes or assessments?

Director Mike Zelek is the County “Health Czar”.  DIALOG WITH HIM; these are “helpful posts”, not your government big sister speaking.

You’ll benefit being in a group with “health disparities”.  CURRENTLY the following, BUT ASK Director Zelek, things could change:
o  Black/African American
o  Hispanic/Latinx
o  LGBTQIA+
o  a person with disabilities
o  a woman

How you “self-describe” is crucial to being in some groups, for example Hispanic/Latinx and LGBTQIA+.  If you self-described as Hispanic on the 2020 US Census, likely that is what the County requires.  LGBTQIA+ is a very “inclusive” categorization and typically “self-described”.  Due to HIPAA privacy laws, your health “self descriptions” are private.  By law they cannot be shared.

I have questions out to Director Zelek for my health future; you should too.  ACT NOW and ask him on how to be included.

Monday I’ll ask the Commissioners, tune in the Public Input part.
