A month ago our County officials created and approved a 2nd Health Crisis. They prefer you discover the ramifications later. COVID-19 is the first Health Crisis. This 2nd Health Crisis is a condition called Structural Racism.
Countians had no idea, due to borderline secretive proceedings. Unless you attended the June 22nd BoH meeting, a lonely agenda item was the ONLY public information:
o “Board of Health Statement”
This 2nd County Health Crisis hands the Commissioners virtually unlimited power to create “racism and health” edicts. And enforce them with the police and courts.
The Structural Racism Crisis is based on false claims. Here’s one, according to the BoH and Commissioners, [quote] “the disproportionally high COVID-19 case percentage of Chatham County Latino community members”.
Let’s explore that. “The disproportionally high COVID-19 case percentage of Chatham County Latino community members”.
COVID data says cases By Race include:
o 13% African American
Demographic data says Chatham County is:
o 13% African American
Huh? The same. COVID doesn’t hit Blacks harder.
COVID data says cases By Ethnicity are:
o Hispanic: 53%
53% wow! You’d think COVID is slamming Latinos. Think again.
COVID data ALSO says cases By Race are:
o white: 53%
o other: 33%
Other, huh, what’s that?!? Turns out “other*”* is people we normally think of as Hispanic – plus a bunch of white folks that “identify” as Hispanic. Like me. Yes, I’m Latino, ask the Census Bureau.
Soooo … while your Officials want you to believe that COVID is hitting people with ties to south of the border harder, it’s not. In Chatham a bunch of white folks “identify” as Hispanic. Rich white folks. Rich white Democrats. Some Republicans too. VERY useful folks for generating fake stats on Structural Racism.
All this to secretively ram through a 2nd Health Crisis that gives the Commissioners yet more power to issue new edicts and enforce them with the police and courts.
