A positive view of the coronavirus shutdown

I live in Pittsboro, and I wish to reflect on the positive things which have happened in the last months:  (this is not to diminish the tragic things that have happened, but I choose to think about the pluses and not the minuses)

Cheaper Gas than I have seen in many years
Less Traffic…I can actually get out of my driveway onto Hillsboro Street without a wait
More time to fix nutritious and healthy meals
Using up groceries at the back of the cabinet
Getting closets and bookshelves cleaned out
Wonderful long walks with our dog, Cocoa
Less dump trucks rumbling down Hillsboro Street at all hours
Writing and receiving letters from cousins and friends I have not seen in a long time
Feeling safe and happy in my home
Making a list of the things I have in my kitchen rather than what I think I need from the store
People out walking, greeting each other with “how are you doing?” and meaning it.
Immaculate lawns and gardens in our town
Less email spam and less postal junk mail
Appreciative servers (especially at Elizabeth’s Pizza) and gracious postal workers
Saving money on haircuts, pedicures and laundry
Discovering the convenience of groceries delivered to my porch
The Pittsboro Food Lion which has done a wonderful job of cleaning each cart, making one-way  aisles, stocking the best they can, and being terrifically caring
Making a little vegetable garden in the back yard, even if the deer do eat much of it
Eddie (from the Piggly Wiggly) honking a good morning to me when I walk the dog and he is heading to work in Siler City
Joe and his family who created The Stop Sign Karma Cabinet on West Salisbury Street; they started it, we have added to it, and hope anybody who has a need will stop by.  Leave a note and we can help stock more.
The folks at First Bank who provide hometown personal service and assistance, through the drivethru or coming out to the car with documents to sign
The family of red foxes who live on Hillsboro Street, that have given us something to think and talk about which does not have to do with a virus

Please feel free to add to my list….what do you feel thankful and appreciative for?
