Subject: Pot shots and what people say . .
A wise friend of mine said to me yesterday- “If you put yourself out there, some people are going to take pot shots at you” Soooo- the pots have been shot and I am no worse off . . . pots need drainage holes too . . .
I noted that a lot of shrubs are just starting to bud and some even blooming. My potted tulips are already coming up. When I planted lily bulbs today, I notice that I already have lilies sprouting that were planted years ago. Birds are pecking around. An awful lot of tiny slender birds. I just can’t figure them out. What kind of birds they are.
I saved all my fluffy cat hair brushings this winter and will hang them in various trees, shrubs- It is astounding to see birds go right to it, pull a beakful and fly off to line their nest. My cat Danny is a long hair orange tabby- Once I found a nest that was lined with his orange hair. Made me feel good.
I had some daffadils bloom last week- I usually don’t do well with them. Always more foliage than bloom. The ornamental grass “Carex Everillo” which is always so golden and showy is green this time of year, but still beautiful.
I have to start raking leaves in Feb. If I don’t, things start to grow and the rake will damage the tender shoots. Adding to all the hoopla- My 84 year old knees seem to choose to sit and watch television instead of kneeling in the garden to do their job. But I know, with the first breath of Spring, when the birds start to sing, I’ll be there with bells on . . . can’t wait . . .
