The True Chatham County

In the last few months a very nice black couple paid for my husband and I to have dinner. They were complete strangers, but they were a blessing and she wished God’s blessing for us as she left.

A Spanish lady ran out in the rain to my car to ask if i had left my cell phone in the driver’s license office and then insisted on running back through the rain to get it for me.

Several black men have greeted me and made a special effort to hold open doors for me when they could just as easily walked on by.

A Spanish teen hurried back up the side walk to open a store door for me after she had come out and started down the sidewalk.

Several white ladies have offered to take my grocery cart back to the cart stand.

A very nice young black man passed me on the dirt road where I walk my dog. When the dog broke away to chase his car, the young man stopped and waited to catch the dog and walk her back to me.He could much easily sped on off and let the dog continue to follow..

I am an older white lady with white hair, but I am still very able to do all these things for myself.None of these people had to help me but they certainly made my day.

This is the real Chatham County, not two groups lined up on the opposite sides of the road yelling hostile words across it while carrying knives and guns.

But after a while even kind, helpful, peace loving people can become riled and begin to take sides.Let us not let this happen in Chatham County. Continue to talk in a nice way to others and help and greet each other in all kindness. Don’t let an inanimate object that probably had little attention for a number of years change our life.
