Subject: So I’m starting to write this book . . .
So I’m thinking of writing this book about a little county in North Carolina. A cute little county- wanting to grow and not to grow. Some of us have grown up here and want no more growing. Others who weren’t privileged to have been born here, now live here and want it to keep growing- to meet their ideas.
Actually the cast of characters would fill the first couple of hundred pages. But I don’t know where to go from there. Of course there is the butcher, the baker and the candle stick maker. There were all here from the beginning. But what about the tire dealer, the braille translator and yo-yo champion. There was not need for them way back when. The little shop owner, the big dirt moving contractor and little lady that pet sits. There is also Becky that mows lawns and prunes shrubs. Sarah who cleans houses and Dot that wipes the counter after you spilled that beer at the local hangout.
Those that collect the trash, those that dump the trash, those that pick thru the trash and make a meager living selling some of it (maybe to the same folks that threw it away- It has happened.) Dale tills the soil and grows veggies one could die for. Mina and Rex have a gym and Paula and Max are still trying to get their little real estate business off the ground.
Then there is the person trying to tie all this together- Is this county actually bulging at the seams or is there still room to grow. How many pages? Time will tell.
