Subject: Phone Scam in Chatham
There is a telephone scam going on in Chatham county. Your phone rings, a seemingly desperate voice says “Can You Hear Me?”- You certainly are going to say ‘yes’. It happened to me last November, but after I said yes, the connection failed and that was the end of it.
Last night, I heard on the national news, the “Can you hear me?” call is a scam. When you answer “yes”, you reply is recorded and then re-attached to a phony agreement to send them money, etc. They call you back and play the recording for you. Claim it is legally binding, etc.
Best advice is not to answer any calls on the cell that you do not recognize the calling number. Don’t answer any Number With-held or Private number. Hang up if they plead “Can you Hear me?”
