“Northeast Chatham County is nothing more than Chapel Hill Light, home of the much hyped Chatham Park and Briar Chapel. Why should the rest of the county be asked to fund (school) improvements needed because of their population influx and for their use?”
This is so ironic. When those of us in north Chatham were arguing against Briar Chapel, and now arguing against Chatham Park, the people in the West were saying how great these behemoths would be for the county, bringing jobs and economic prosperity.
At the time we were reporting that residential development does not pay for itself, and that property taxes would go up to pay for new schools. Now the chickens have come home to roost.
This also speaks to the recent discussion about impact fees, the whole purpose of which is to try to defray some of the cost of this influx of population.
Pick a side, people!
best wishes,
