Subject: Read the Bill
Anyone who thinks that HB2 is simply about public bathrooms has not read the bill in its entirety and is either woefully or willfully uninformed. It is a Trojan horse bill that violates the civil rights of many citizens and has cost and will continue to cost our state millions of dollars. U.S. Justice Department officials repudiated the bill on Wednesday, May 4, telling Gov. Pat McCrory that the law violates the U.S. Civil Rights Act and Title IX – a finding that could jeopardize billions in desperately needed federal education funding for North Carolina. I applaud Karen Howard and all of our Commissioners who had the foresight and courage to take a stand against House Bill 2.
