Subject: Mike Cross: The Voting Record
In his Facebook post (which Karl Kachergis put on Tuesday’s Chatlist) Mike Cross states, “I support [county-wide zoning].” And he urges voters to simply check the voting records.
But, surprisingly and inexplicably, Commissioner Cross’ statement fails to report that he actually voted against County-wide zoning at the November 16, 2015 Board meeting along with Republican Commissioner Petty. From Commissioner Cross, who has spent many hours serving on the Board for many years and earned citizens’ respect, this is a shocking and surprising misrepresentation of his record.
Moreover, the votes Cross actually reports in his post fail to support his claim that he supports County-wide zoning. His December 2015 motion related only to the sizes of lots that would be established, and that vote came after the decision to pursue zoning had been made, over his opposition. His December 2014 vote was in favor of community meetings not to consider zoning but a more limited so-called Open Use system. His February 2015 vote against the postponement of those meetings weighed in opposition to zoning and in support of Open Use.
Unfortunately, a “checking of the records” shows Mike Cross opposing zoning, not supporting it.
All of this is timely since Mike Cross is now facing primary opposition from a young and articulate Democrat, Mike Dasher. Dasher has pointed out that, as with zoning, Mike Cross unfortunately on too many occasions voted in opposition to progressive Commissioners on the Board.
