5:30-6:15pm          Reflective Reading & Meditation Forum
  Chatham Community Library is offering a six week forum designed to deepen our reflection and personal understanding. Each session will consist of a short reading, followed by 15-20 minutes of silent meditation/contemplation, and close with a few moments for shared insights. The readings will draw from the writings of some of the world’s most profound thinkers. We will start with a reading from HD Thoreau’s Walden. Jeshua Pacifici will host the forum.
Tuesday, October 27th
This last session will start at 5:30pm and conclude at 6:15pm.

Wednesday, Oct. 28
3-4:30pm                    Finding Reliable Health Information Online-How do you make sure you’re finding reliable information about medical conditions, prescription drugs, and wellness online? This class will show you how to find and use free, high-quality health resources online! Participants should be comfortable operating a computer, using a keyboard and mouse, and navigating the Internet. This workshop is FREE and open to the public; however, class size is limited and registration is required. Call 919-545-8086 to sign up.

4pm                               “All Ears” Read to a Therapy Dog Program. Scout is back from summer vacation and on a new  day! Young readers (ages 6-12) can improve their reading skills by reading to our friendly and licensed therapy dog, Scout. Each child will have a 15 minute session reading a book to Scout. The sessions will be every other Wednesday afternoon and space is limited so pre-registration is required. Make sure to make a reservation to read to him. Scout is waiting!            The traditional historical interpretation of the notorious Blackbeard, and the pop culture-Hollywood incarnations it has begotten, may be among the more enduring historical hoaxes of colonial American history. Much of what the public knows about the infamous pirate simply isn’t true, nor is there documentary evidence to support it. To find the elusive truth of history, noted North Carolina research historian and author Kevin Duffus has delved deeper into the primary sources than anyone to discover a new, more accurate account that reveals the identity, origins, and motivations of Blackbeard and his inner circle of pirate cohorts.
Join North Carolina Historian of the Year, author, and filmmaker Kevin Duffus in an all-new multi-media presentation that lays bare the popular myths of Blackbeard’s widely-believed surname of Teach, his ferocity, his purported birthdate, his many houses, his many “wives,” and his long-lost treasure. “What’s Wrong With Blackbeard” is as humorous as it is thought-provoking, as surprising as it is provocative, exposing one of the greatest myths of the Golden Age of Piracy.
“This the best kind of history because it enables us to ask new questions about issues that we thought were already answered,” says Taylor Stoermer, former Colonial Williamsburg historian. “Duffus takes a provocative approach, but it’s based on solid methodology and a really responsible, really deep reading of the sources. So it really adds to our understanding of the past and keeps it alive.”
“No one in the modern era has researched Blackbeard as deeply and thoroughly as Duffus has,” says Hampton History Museum curator J. Michael Cobb. “He’s left no stone unturned in his effort to get at the truth behind all the fabrications, exaggerations and distortions.”
There will be a Q&A session following the presentation and Kevin will have books for purchase and signing.
