It is tempting to react thoughtlessly to the remarks of Taylor Kish.
In its last post the persona mixed in particularly triggering accusations at legitimate citizens going about their business of protesting legally and rationally against the 7,000 acre development Chatham Park Investors plans in our midst. Somehow, Kish claims, Chatham Park Investors are above the profit-driven-at-any-cost motives of covering these acres in miles of concrete with resulting pollution and disruption for the citizens already here. The language in the last post is just short of calling PittsboroMatters and TruthMatters an evil empire when they are exercising the same democratic rights guaranteed to all of us by the Constitution.
Many of us may consider Taylor Kishs slanders a reasonable tactic though this public ranting is obviously appalling. It tells me the depth of tolerance that runs through our democracy which, if it’s to function at optimum, requires a high degree of mutual respect between stakeholders in any action that affects all of Chatham County. PittsboroMatters simply asks that Chatham Park Investors stick to the promises they made when submitting their proposal to the Pittsboro Town Board.
Why complicate this argument with inflaming words when a cool head is needed? I’m tempted to make many guesses here but they would only be speculation. And the result would be a like-minded response to Taylor Kish in the same language it has already used.
This week we vote on the new Board, our reasonable and democratic right to take action as citizens. Perhaps Taylor Kish would like to include all of us in this evil empire of democracy.
