Subject: Write words so sweet . . .
I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter-
And make believe it came from you . . .
I’m gonna write words so sweet-
It’ll knock you off your feet . .
And the kisses at the bottom-
You’ll be glad you gottum . .
So goes the old song from the 1930s and ’40s. I used to write a lot, use lots of stamps. But now at the cost of stamps, I think really hard before doing so. Email is so much easier. Oh, I know the stamps are pretty, very collectable and will actually stay put on the envelopes- but it somehow has just eased its way out of my life.
I have a rural mail box beside busy four lane highway 64. When I open that box and find a letter, it usually means I owe someone money or a long lost relative is threatening to visit. Even worse, a letter informing me someone has died. There are so many large trucks and fast cars passing my mail box, I have to watch the traffic very carefully before I stand at the box and open it. If I am there when a big truck passes, the force of the wind from the truck actually makes my body move- and I have no control. Scary.
I’m putting my foot down! Either they move the lanes over and further away from my mailbox or I’m gonna sit right down and write them a letter
