Many thanks to Deputy Luke Scala for clarifying where the medications collected in the take back events end up, and thanks to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Chatham Cares Pharmacy and Chatham Habitat for co-sponsoring this opportunity for Chatham residents to dispose of their unused medications in a safe way. By disposing of medications in this manner, they are less likely to get in to the wrong hands.

Just a reminder. If you couldn’t bring your medications to the Pittsboro Habitat store take back event, there are permanent drop boxes located at the Pittsboro and Siler City Police Departments. Call the respective departments for hours of operation.

“According to Deputy Luke Scala at the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, “all prescription drugs that are collected will not be recycled or reused in any way. They are incinerated following the collection event.” This is standard policy for prescription collection events.”
