Subject: Hey, Al Cooke, where’s my big truck?
I’ve been waiting all day for that big, government truck to bring all that free stuff. Maybe it is delivering free stuff to all those other people? Big trucks. and little trucks, and horse-drawn wagons were bringing stuff to small stores all over North Carolina over roads made by bison, and/or trade routes carved out by pre-historical tribes, or people trying to get away from overbearing government cronies and agents. Immigrants who were not favored by the king could find land and other resources by getting away from “the government”. Those hardy, self-reliant individuals and families made (many of) the roads we use today. Governments came along and took over road management because too many others wanted somebody else to maintain the road.
I am grateful for those who serve others no matter who their compensation comes from. I am grateful for the government agencies who allow Gene Galin to provide this Chatlist. I am grateful for the service you give in Chatham County, Al Cooke. Thank you. Thank you, all. I am grateful for all those individuals who helped others during our recent winter weather events without any form of compensation or government assistance. You helped another person out of love, or duty, or because it was a good or right thing to do. Thank you. Every good act you do makes the human race better.
It is popular for government employees and socialists to point to roads and infrastructure. It may be news to know all roads were built by individuals for most of human history. If you needed a road to your farm, you built it yourself. Roads were built by armies for conquest using slave labor. Dwight Eisenhower is credited with building the American interstate highway system to allow our military to respond to a foreign invasion. Governments are newcomers to the road building business. Oh, BTW, roads are built by private companies. Government regulators with nothing at all to lose make them. . .uh. . .better?
Government takes BILLIONS from taxpayers for roads and infrastructure in gas taxes. It is NOT out of the goodness of their hearts. They take too much money so a lot of it goes to the state’s General Fund. And government waste and their cronies.
Yes, state and local government employees contribute 6% to their own retirement. The money and its accumulated interest is USED UP in LESS THAN 3 YEAR’S retirement. Then it is all taxpayer contributions. How many of you who are NOT government employees get ANY retirement benefits? How many of you get FREE medical insurance for the rest of your life?
How about helping Chatham County residents understand how we can measure and celebrate the Chatham County Extension service? What measurements are used to determine effectiveness? What specific, measurable results can we celebrate? How do the costs of the extension service measure up to the value provided? If your Chatham County budget grows each year, how is that reflected in the added value to Chatham County businesses and residents? Are Chatham farmers making more money from their crops? Is the soil healthier? Are the rivers safer from agricultural pollution? Are cattle beefier? Sheep sheepier? Goats tastier BECAUSE county extension agents are on the job?
Fellow residents, don’t hold your breath waiting for a reply to this post! lol How much of the county extension service has been replaced by Google? But we keep paying for it!
