Saturday, February 14th Beginning at 9:00 AM: Great Backyard Bird Count at Northeast District Park
Join us at Chatham County’s Northeast District Park on Big Woods Road beginning at 9:00 AM for the Great Backyard Bird Count and bird walk with popular guide Andy Upshaw. The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a great way for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with nature and show some love for the birds this Valentine’s Day. Participation is free and easy. Anyone in the world can count birds at any location for at least 15 minutes on one or more days of the count and enter their sightings at http://gbbc.birdcount.org/. The information gathered by tens of thousands of volunteers helps track changes in bird populations on a massive scale. The GBBC is a joint project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. Bird count checklists will be provided on site, or you may print your own checklists at http://gbbc.birdcount.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/2015GBBC_DataForm.pdf
Free and open to the general public. No pre-registration necessary. Dress warmly for being outside. Bring your own binoculars and bird identification book if you have them. Meet in the parking lot near the trailhead sign in the Northeast District Park.
