Kudos to Betty Phillips not only for her thoughtful response to those who seem to be judgmental and unknowingly unkind to people who are carrying heavy burdens but because she so graciously offered a complimentary session to those who are in need of her professional services.
I am one who infrequently reads The Chatlist because I am saddened to read how mean and intolerant some folks are towards people who post letters. We are all in this life together and we best be as kind as we can for we never know when we just might be “down and out” some day and need a kind word or helping hand.
Perhaps we all could read John Donne’s “No Man Is An Island” again –
No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Every man is a piece of the continent .
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as is if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
Or of thine own were.
Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
Thank you again, Betty. I don’t personally know you but you sound like a good woman.
