Subject: Improved relationship with food
Hi All,
After reading the posts about obesity, diabetes, etc thought I would chime in. It has been my experience, as a yo yo dieter for many many years that weight loss diets don’t work for a simple reason- there is a strong element of deprivation involved. So we use our control and will power to deprive ourselves of those foods we love only to lose a few pounds and reward ourselves with the very substances that got us fat to begin with. For me it is not about what I eat- not to say those really fattening and unhealthy foods are ok- but how I eat. An unhealthy relationship with food can be founded in all sorts of issues and extends to folks with other eating disorders as well.
In my opinion no government direction is going to help that challenge, nor is it needed.
There are wonderful resources already available. Standing out big time is Overeaters Anonymous which is a wonderful fellowship that has been changing peoples’ lives since the 1970s and is alive and growing in our area.
For anyone who thinks they might have an issue with food there is a meeting, right here in Pittsboro, every Friday night at 6pm in the little white building, in the parking lot behind the Pittsboro United Methodist Church, and it’s free.
