The Chatham County Beekeepers Association lost one of our members this year to cancer. Joseph Pedagno was a talented and respected man who was taken from his family and friends too soon.
We asked his wife, Teresa, what she would prefer that we do to honor his memory. Out of the choices we suggested, Teresa chose a birdbath at the community college in Pittsboro next to the hives that the association maintains. Besides his bees, she told us that Joseph loved dragonflies. The search was on and nothing was found. Then, talking to Phyllis Fleming (VP of CCBA) and Kevin Kuhnel (welding instructor and artist) at their booth at an art show, Kevin offered one of his dragonflies and said, “We’ll get it done†. They placed their creation in the garden on Saturday. We still need some kind of plaque to let people know why it is there, but I think Joseph would love it the way he loved life, family, and his bees.
Many thanks to Phyllis and Kevin for a beautiful “Beebath†. The CCBA is truly grateful for the time and energy these artists donated. They both do amazing work and I hope you get to Kevin’s studio this Saturday. I hear he is serving chili and beer!
