Subject: Hometown boys and idiots
I read two different post making comments about hometown boys from two entirely different points of view . One seams to be pointing out all the flaws and short comings of one man while putting themselves on the high and mighty soap box . The other seams to be throwing half the county under the bus implying we are all backwards unprogressive racist bigots . Every family has a black sheep. The one big embarrassment that when a family member is asked who is that guy around the corner up the tree naked and drunk they ponder on a quick lie but reluctantly sigh and comment , its my nephew , brother or uncle and say we don’t claim him . There is always the village idiot too . Its the one that tries to do great things and always makes a complete fool of themselves in the process . People in general are very peculiar and very odd at times and it hardly benefits anyone to throw too many insults as there is so much bad in the best of us and so much good in the worst of us that it doesn’t benefit any of us to talk about the rest of us .
Sometimes I’m the village idiot , sometimes I’m the one on the soap box but mostly I try to do something positive . I can see where many of the things going on now around Pittsboro are fires fueled by extreme emotion . Many of us I think see the lawsuit filed is an emotional response to not getting ones way of stopping Chatham Park from being built . Its the mentality of If I can’t stop it I will be a thorn in its side and cost the developers all the money I can to slow it down . My point is if your too conservative your stagnant and if your too progressive your dangerous . We have to find a balance in the middle where we can preserve the things that many long time residents enjoy while allowing some development at a steady controlled pace to encourage job growth. Good jobs promote better communities and economic stability for our residents . People are like ingredients in a good soup . If you mix in to many at once the differences will over power each other and you got a nasty tasting mess . If you slow down the process and mix and little and taste a little you can create an awesome dish . Some of these (damn Yankees) as it was put compliment the community while others complicate it . My philosophy is those who compliment it are very welcomed new neighbors , those who complicate it need to go back where they came from . Goodnite Mark 🙂
