Subject: United health care and Chatham residents
This could be a long post with what I have learned this week but I will condense it so please bear with me .
With all the Obamacare crap hitting the fan many have had to shuffle insurance and drug providers especially if your on Medicaid / Medicare . I had a family member who was on Humana and that was a nightmare so we had an agent switch her to Blue Cross and Blue Shield . Wonderful !!! Its working perfectly for her . I was pointed to United Healthcare for my drug card provider and Medicare handler . The copays were the same as before on Silverscript but I got all these wonderful freebees and extra services I didn’t need with United .
This week my therapist who works with me and my kids contacted me with a bad problem . United Healthcare has an affiliated company to access the need for new care providers and advise them to add them . United Healthcare hasn’t added new mental health or some physical therapist to their Chatham County network area in 10 years meaning that most of the therapist in this county arent in the United network . After three months of shuffling and dancing with United they refused to pay our therapist or my physical therapist sticking me with nearly $2000 in bills I wouldn’t have got if I had left my provider alone and not switched . My physical doctor was in their network but it gets a bit sketchy with physical therapist and mental health professionals .
My therapist is with a good number of other therapist for Chatham and other surrounding counties who have got the shaft since the first of the year with all the Obamacare and Medicare changes . They are filing a formal complaint against United with the State of North Carolina . If you have United Healthcare make sure that your doctors are in their networks , your drugs are covered and that any mental health care provider or physical therapist you have are in their network before you get hit with a big nasty unpaid bill . It took three months of the shuffle and shake before they denied my claims and stuck me with big bills I cant pay . Since I am dual covered I can and did switch back to Silverscript and the Medicaid / Medicare package I had before .
My opinion after what I have learned is to stay clear of United Healthcare period ! The mental health care providers who spoke with my therapist all agreed that United was screwing not only therapist but the clients as well here in Chatham County . This is my opinion and the facts I presented are from other therapist affiliated with my doctor and other clients in Chatham who have got burned . Goodnite Mark
