Subject: Senior citizen activities
My father in law recently relocated from Mississippi to Pittsboro, and I’m looking for opportunities for him to integrate into the areas senior citizen scene. At 83 years of age, he is in far better shape than many – he still drives, works on his hobbies (scale model building, mainly aircraft), and plays the occasional 9 holes of golf.
I am concerned, however, that he has moved away from his comfortable social scene… In Mississippi he had a group of guys he met for coffee, the occasional card game, and other such retiree activities – here, he’s yet to connect with any social outlets, except an occasional round of golf. He is recovering from a very mild stroke that has somewhat slowed these activities but not as much as the winter weather has.
I’m looking for suggestions – are there any senior center activities he can get involved in? This is an area of interest in which I am woefully uninformed. Chatlist to the rescue??
