Subject: Paying taxes on your vehicles
The new system of collecting taxes on vehicles should be a better way to assure that everyone pays their fair share of local taxes.
After looking at my charges on purchasing tags yesterday, I would encourage all to take a second look at your charges. Because the bill does not come in the mail giving you a chance to “look it over” you will have to look after paying the tax. I was charged taxes for the city of Pittsboro and I do not live there. Evidently the software being used cannot determine from street addresses which tax district one lives in. You could be paying city taxes whether you owe them or not, and the district you do live in (in my case a rural fire district) may not be getting their “fair share”.
It does not help to go to the DMV website and use their estimator as I got a different amount and no details showing the local tax rate.
