Brad Page made a good point . Where will the money come from to help these elderly folks in need right here right now . I have a list of angels like Brad who help others with no real regard for money but care for others driving them .
One thing that really crawls up my back with local churches and charities is the majority of the money will go out of the county and sometimes out of the country . Why ? We have elderly in need , families with kids in need , people stuck from a hard hit in the economy who just cant pay doing without right here in this county. This isn’t an entitlement issue . I wont go there as there are to many getting free this and that who wont get off their lazy butt to work or quit making babies they cant care for just to get ( benefits ) .
We are a community and we once knew our neighbors , all of them . I know most of mine but am ashamed to say I rarely talk to them with the hustle and bustle of life but I still know them and they me . Why is it we don’t take time to know the ones who live closest to us ? Why is it we donate money and items to charities that take away from our community where the help is needed most . I think many get caught up on this tax deduction hitch of ( I cant donate money unless I get a tax deduction so I FEEL GOOD about it ) If you have to worry about a tax deduction to feel good about helping others don’t waste your time .
I have been on the receiving end of others charity lately with help on my house and heat pump . My mama’s condition is fair one day and mentally exhausting for me the next . I really appreciated the help . All the things you know about I have done for others I didn’t do so I could holler for free help later . There are things I have done you will never know about and that’s because when I did them I wasn’t worried about praise or a tax deduction . If anything I have learned the people who help others with the most genuine love in their hearts are the ones least able to do so . Brad is a good example of one of those people and with his words I end this post :
Council on Aging can’t help more of these folks for one reason. There’s no money for construction materials in their operating budget.
What are we going to do about this? What are you going to do about this? Call Brett Moraes at 919-542-4512.
What would happen if you donated 10% of the gross sales from your next yard sale to the Council on Aging, earmarked for the building materials fund? We don’t need miracles here, just people with a generous heart and a willingness to put a few bucks where it matters.
I feel that was well stated Brad , Goodnite Mark
