Subject: 4-Her’s attend State Even June 22-25
A Chatham County 4-H’er was among the top winners during the annual state 4-H Congress in Raleigh.
This year’s 4-H Congress, held June 22-25, attracted 521 youth and their adult leaders for activities including presentations on a variety of subjects, leadership and citizenship training, service opportunities, officer elections and more. This year’s congress was moved from its traditional late July time slot and combined with another 4-H event, Citizenship Focus, which allows 4-H’ers to engage with their elected leaders in the N.C. General Assembly.
Sarah Thomas, 15, daughter of Brenda Jean and Donald Thomas of Pittsboro, was a winner in the ARIE competition. ARIE — Application, Resume, Interview and Essay — is a four-step competition by which 4-H’ers are chosen to attend national 4-H events, including National Congress, National Conference and International Leadership Conference. Sarah will attend the National 4-H Congress.
Chatham County is also proud to announce that Anna LaRocco Masi won the silver medal in her 14-18 year old Health and Fitness category with her presentation on High Fructose Corn Syrup. Anna is the daughter of Karen LaRocco of Pittsboro,
The Chatham County 4-H delegation consisting of Sarah Thomas, Kaleb Janson of Pittsboro, Katelyn Batchelor of Siler City and Anna and Noble LaRocco Masi of Pittsboro enjoyed the four day teen leadership in Raleigh.
The 4-H program is the youth education program of North Carolina Cooperative Extension, based at North Carolina State and North Carolina A&T State universities. More than 237,500 young people between the ages of 5 and 19 participate in North Carolina 4-H activities each year with the help of 20,780 adult and youth volunteers.
