Subject: 4665 Count me a Marxist
This post on “Count me among the Marxist” is confusing.
A bible scripture is quoted with references to christian ethics. Yet Marx was critical of religion, saying, “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions.. It is the opium of the people.” (Critique of Hegel)
Socialist states that follow the Marxist-Leninist doctrine are aetheistic and anti-religion, which means that the bible quotes are in contradiction to the political affiliation.
So if you are both, then you live in severe contradiction in values, with the Marxian side denying the christian values and denying the good deeds posted under Isaiah 65 to be replaced with government programs ruled by bureaucrat rather than one’s heart.
I am not a Marxist, communist or socialist but I believe in teachings also quoted in the bible.
Luke 3:12-13
Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.”
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Then, we are to become the “cheerful giver.” So self defense is a charge for the believer also. By His example we may smite the moneychangers and false prophets.
The teachings from Isaiah are not the exclusive property of democrats and liberals by any means. To say so would be anti-christian, denying someone the promise of salvation by your personal belief. When a government has overstepped its bounds and taken more than it should, it is the lion/devil of Peter and the thief of John.
And I have no degrees in theology. The good deeds of this republic are founded on christian values, regardless of how many want them stripped from public view and use.
