Subject: Friends Honor Doris Betts with New Collection at Chatham Community Library
PITTSBORO-Celebrated author Doris Betts might have been the greatest friend local libraries ever had. Always generous with her time, she graciously accepted invitations to speak at library programs and was a tireless advocate for libraries and literacy.
The Friends of the Chatham Community Library will honor Betts’ life and work by establishing a Doris Betts Collection fund at Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro.
Since Betts devoted her professional life to teaching and encouraging writers, the collection will include books on the craft of writing. It will also include works by new North Carolina writers as well as books from Betts’ personal library donated by her family.
Commemorative book plates will identify volumes in the Betts Collection.
