Subject: Family Farmer’s Market series Tuesdays in Silk Hope

Please join us on Tuesday afternoons this fall in Silk Hope for the  Family Farmer?s Market! This grassroots project is a weekly  interactive opportunity for kids and families to have fun learning  about local foods.

This series is taking place on Tuesdays from 3-5 pm from from  September 25 through October 30 at the Silk Hope Ruritan Club  fairgrounds. During this time, one featured local producer will set up  a mobile farm stand on the grounds and offer a kid-friendly (and  sometimes kid-led) talk about their product.  Parents can purchase the product during this time and other local foods producers are  encouraged to attend as well.

Following the food demo, there will be an active group game or  activity led by teachers and children from the afterschool program at  Sonflower Seeds Preschool and Child Care in Silk Hope.

Plans are underway to expand the Family Farmer?s Market in the Spring  of 2013 to a larger community market with multiple vendors. Young  people who have grown their own vegetables, eggs or other farm  products will be encouraged to sell their products at the Family  Farmer?s Market (with parental supervision). Adult vendors are also  welcome and the market will continue to have a featured vendor each  week offering a lesson, demonstration or tasting for children who  attend.

The Farmer?s Market is a grassroots community project with leadership  from Sonflower Seeds Preschool and Childcare and the Chatham County  Partnership for Children. The Silk Hope Ruritan Club has generously  donated the use of their grounds.  We hope that this community  partnership will grow to include the support of other organizations  and individuals who would like to help connect Chatham?s children and  families with healthy local foods.
