Subject: Small House Movement, Classes starting at CCCC August 18th! Build a house here, then build yours!
Learn how to build your own Small House. The era of bigger is better is losing ground in new home construction. More people are turning toward a smaller housing footprint to conserve energy and materials cost.
Central Carolina Community College, Chatham Campus has initiated a small house program that allows individuals to participate directly in the construction of a real Small House, of only 500 sq ft.
Learn how to build your own home! The learning objectives for this course cover safety, tool use, energy efficient design, indoor air quality, and hands on construction of a Small House.
The course is structured to teach resource efficiency, safety, and hands on construction techniques necessary to build an energy efficient, green, house.
Course work is composed of 25% class style instruction, and 75% hands on execution The class meets from 08/17/12 to 12/14/12
Tuesdays and Fridays 9-12 and1-4. Students can register as curriculum students (pursuing the Green Building Certificate, or AAS in Green Building) OR may register as a continuing education student.
Upon completion, students will have worked with design, budgeting, marketing, public relations, community support, carpentry, tools, safety; all aspects needed to complete a small house project. Textbooks: Toward a Zero Energy Home – Johnson & Gibson; Graphic Guide to Frame Construction – Thallon
