Subject: children book salesman

hello,

we just had a salesman come to our door this morning selling children books. he said his name was Poncho and that he was with the early years program. he said he was up from new mexico selling these books as his summer job.

did anybody else have him come to your home?

i remember reading on the chatlist recently that there have been “salesman” making the rounds only to be robbed later. i don’t feel threatened by him but i am unsettled by his visit especially since we are pretty secluded. we do not get a lot of home visitors.

we live close to the intersection of 87N/Castle Rock Farm Rd.

  1. We had a similar experience. Man came to our very rural house at 9:30 at night. I thought he was lost. He asked if I was ‘the mom’ and because he was well-dressed and had a nice-looking vehicle, I asked if he was looking for “The Smiths” (not their real name, but the only family in our small community who has children. He asked if they were school-aged and I got suspicious. I asked why he wanted to know and he said that he wanted to let the parents of Chatham County know about the services available to them. I thought he said something about tutoring services for Chatham County Schools, but after reading these posts, I could be mistaken. After I told him that we don’t have children, he turned out of our driveway and went deeper into the neighborhood. I called 911 and later spoke to a deputy who said that there is a solicitor registered in the county, matching the description I gave. I couldn’t see that he had Texas tags, but I’m still very suspicious.

I called “The Smiths” to warn them about him, but they said he hadn’t come to visit him. He was in our neighborhood about 5 or 10 minutes before he left. It was all very strange. First of all, what door-to-door salesman comes knocking at 9:30 at night??

I agree that people should be suspicious. Just call the sherriff’s office and have them catch him before he leaves the neighborhood. Even if he IS legitimate, he is scaring quite a few residents in this county and should practice better sales tactics.

    Thanks for listening!
