Chatham County Seeks Two Members for Solid Waste Advisory Committee
PITTSBORO– Chatham County has two potential vacancies on its Solid Waste Advisory Committee, which provides guidance to the Board of Commissioners on solid waste issues, including funding, waste reduction and recycling, short-term and long-term disposal, collection center policies, household hazardous waste, environmental education, and environmental enforcement. The Board of Commissioners will make the appointments.
The vacancy for commissioner District 3 would complete a term ending June 30, 2013, but would be eligible for reappointment to a full three-year term. The District 5 appointment would be a full three-year term ending June 30, 2015. Applicants do not have to live or work in the specified commissioner district, but geographic diversity is a key factor.
The committee usually meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in one of the county buildings in Pittsboro, but often does not meet in July.
The advisory committee has eight voting members, with each county commissioner having one appointment to ensure geographic representation. The other three members are nominated by the towns of Goldston, Pittsboro and Siler City, but are approved by the full Board of Commissioners.
If interested in applying for one of the two vacancies, complete a committee application form no later than May 1, 2012. The form can be filled out and submitted online at: www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=3D49 Or contact Lindsay Ray at 919-542-8200 to obtain a printed or emailed copy.
