Dear Nabooko:
I have bad news and good news for you. The bad news: You have already put your work “out there,” where folks can praise and/or criticize it by posting to the chatlist. A creative writing class would be no different.
In fact, I’ve found that our local writing classes consistently provide positive environments. Your classmates might likely offer suggestions for improvement (writing can always be improved), but no one would slice and dice you or your work. Good teachers simply don’t allow such things.
The good news: Your work is consistently well-received by chatlist readers. Congratulations! And more good news: You are writing. It doesn’t matter if you do this for yourself or others. You seem to have stories you want to get down on paper (or the electronic equivalent). Keep doing that, whether you share them or not.
It is always a gamble to share your thoughts with others. And no one can make you if you don’t want to. However, because you are getting positive feedback on the chatlist, I hope you’ll continue to at least post your stories in this forum. And I hope you’re keeping an electronic file somewhere of all these tales. Someday you may change your mind about sharing your work via another venue.
Whatever you decide, Nabooko, I hope you’ll continue to write, and to post to the chatlist. I, for one, would find this forum much drearier without your unique perspective on life. 🙂
