Subject: Siler City business tax increase
I would like to get the details on a recent tax increase on Siler City business owners, I’m not sure if it is limited only to Siler City or not, but seems to me that this increase of 400% (?) is a real spit in the face to a small town that just lost hundreds of jobs of our hardworking people and farmers employed by Townsend.
Many of these local business people are barley hanging on and many have already fallen, and instead of trying to find ways to help these folks the town decides to kick them when they are down.
I have also heard (not sure if this is true or not) but the tax is omitting the big money store Walmart and Food Lion, so they are only going after the little people. Piggly Wiggly and Best Foods may not make it through this down turn.
This is wrong and the town needs to repeal this tax and redistribute back to our community.

On a side note, does anyone know who is in charge of the nutrition/cafeteria program in public schools (specifically Siler City)? Is this run by the school, town, county or state??? We need to see some serious changes in this area.
