Subject: Internet Casino right in the Pittsboro Circle
Hello Pittsboroians,
There is a new business preparing to open it’s doors on the main drag in Pittsboro. It will be located accross from the courthouse and administrative building and is nestled between the General Store Cafe and True North Crossfit. It was once the business office for Emergency Apparatus. Following a little remodeling this business plans to sell jewelry, tobacco, tobacco related products, and also plans to operate as an internet cafe (aka internet gambling “parlor”). This is the plan as laid out by the owner in a meeting with several community members and business owners.
It is my opinion that a casino in town, or anywhere in Chatham County for that matter, would serve only as a nuisance. This type of business operates solely to serve the financial gain of the proprieter and does nothing to benefit the community. It would only take from the community and usher in an increase in crime in the area.
I am in favor of personnal freedom; go lose your money wherever you want. I just don’t think this type of business is what downtown Pittsboro needs. Personally, I do not want to see this business open it’s doors. There is good news though, the business license has not yet been approved by the town of Pittsboro. The list of services is being scrutinized. The community and it’s officials are still able to voice their concerns over this matter. The gambling parlor opening is not a “done deal”. Feel like saying something about this to somebody you might know? Yeah, me too.
