The Free States
The Free States, a bluegrass quartet from the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill triangle, was formed in late 2010 when Pennsylvania native Kevin Flinn left his adopted home of Los Angeles and landed in north Raleigh.
After fronting The Low Countries (a five-piece honky-tonk band) and City Museum, a loud indie-rock outfit, Kevin made a conscious effort to simplify his catalog of songs. Via Craigslist, Kevin recruited a who’s who of veteran Triangle acoustic musicians: Carrboro’s Mike Booze on banjo and Durham’s Pat McGraw on upright bass and Chris Mankoff on mandolin. The Free States play with a unique group dynamic, mixing singer/songwriter heritage with traditional bluegrass sensibilities.
THE GENERAL STORE CAFE WILL BE OPEN LABOR DAY 8-3 PM
