The Chargers and the Jets of Jordan Matthews tied 1-1 in their opening round of the OC tournament last night in a hard fought, well played match. NHS took the lead with 15 minutes remaining on a corner kick set play as Connor Lawrence headed in a kick from Anthony Castro. With five seconds remaining in the match JM was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box. Chase Golden blocked the kick, but JM gathered the rebound and scored to tie the match. The second round of the tournament continues tonight @ Chapel Hill with NHS playing Cary Academy at 6pm and JM playing Chapel Hill at 8pm. Both teams will play again Thursday.
NHS had a successful season opening “pre-season” tournament at the “Kick it for Cancer Tourney” in Raleigh with wins over Swansboro, West Carteret and Dixon on Saturday Aug. 13th.
