Subject: Century Link Download Rates
I have noticed that videos download intermittently with a lot of breaks. My upload/download tests seem fine, returning satisfactory speeds. however, videos are interrupted every ten seconds with breaks until the whole video is downloaded once. Then, on the HD, it plays straight through.
Does anyone else have this problem? Videos used to DL without breaks very quickly a few months ago. If others have this problem, then I assume that mine is not with my computer but with Century Link’s central office.
A few weeks ago, the CL tech found a problem with hardware in the central office (Pittsboro). A request went in to repair it and my ISP settings were reset so that I could access the Internet. That problem was preceded by a thunderstorm which effected the area.
If others have the same symptom, it’s time to demand that CL spend a bit of money on the Pittsboro central office hardware to bring it up to working standard. If you do, email me for the record. If someone has suggestions for repairs to speed me up beyond defragmenting, cleaning unused files, the usual maintenance procedures, [lease let me know. I keep my machine well maintained.
