Subject: Recent Comments on CCEC
As a former member of the Board of Directors of the CCEC, I really feel that I should respond and comment on Caroline Iverson’s post on Chatham Chatlist #4055. I resigned from the Board in May of 2007 as I found the positions the Board took were exclusively a left-wing and/or environmentalist in nature.
In fact, I challenge Caroline to provide evidence where the CCEC has ever taken a supportive position on Republican or conservative issues. Caroline may be technically correct in stating that the CCEC is non-partisan and endorses no candidates, but its agenda is obvious to all. I also note that they do not provide a balanced view by stating the pros and cons of an issue, as one would expect from a non-partisan organization seeking to represent all Chatham citizens.
If you are wondering if I was alone in my view, I attach an extract from an email I received from one of the board members at the time of my resignation. I have deleted all references to names and gender as I have no desire to trash, implicate or otherwise impugn personalities, but do want to convey the nature of the organization. The referenced individual was certainly not the only one seeking to promote the agenda of the left.
“….I am sure that the “wrong” that (name) made was obnoxious to you as is certainly was to all of us and you felt “used”…but that is the (name) politician and (he/she) is difficult…….â€
When I resigned the Board it was composed of 70% Democrat and 30% unaffiliated registered voters. (I am “unaffiliated” , but lean toward the conservative position, especially on fiscal matters). I have not checked the Board make-up since, but I am sure the current names will be familiar to all who follow the CCEC blogs, BOC meetings and Chatlist contributors, and the most active participants are all registered Democrats.
