Subject: Environmental protection under new budget
I read with interest the post from Brian Bock about the new budget, in which he says “Funding core services and protecting our environment are key components in this proposal.”
Like many others who love Chatham for its environmentally rich resources, I’m glad to hear that environmental protection is a key part of his budget strategy. Therefore, I am confused as to how dismantling the volunteer Environmental Review Board, made up of qualified scientists who have performed peer reviews of developmental proposals, and instead using county money to create a new Environmental Services Director position and fill a currently vacant environmental officer position saves money in the new budget.
Perhaps Mr. Bock can enlighten us.
Thanks in advance,
Lynn Hayes
