Monday-May 16-August 8 2011; 6-9 pm: Mig Welding for Art & Hobby.
Beginners & refresher. Instructor Kevin Kuhnel will take students
through the basics of welding and constructing a piece of art from
beginning to end. Location: Siler City, Cost: $136.25; metal fee $30
Tuesday-May 17-July 12; 6:30-8:30 pm: Handweaving. Jean Vollrath will
take students from beginning to end of a finished project. Students will
initiate and complete a handweaving project from planning to executive
through finishing Location: Siler City; Cost: $75.
Tuesday-May 17-June 21; 6-9 pm: Beginning Wheel Throwing: Darlene Brady
will help students develop a passion for clay and enjoy the experience
of creating one of a kind handmade pottery. Students will have hands-on
experience on the potter’s wheel and have the wonderful experience of
firing and glazing their works of art. Location: Siler City Pottery

Tuesday-May 17-August 9; 6:30-7:15 pm: Tai Chi for Health, Part I & II:
Tai Chi Instructor Patty Strother will teach students the correct form
and sequence of beginner and intermediate level Sun Style Chi movements.
By improving posture, balance, flexibility, muscle strength, mental
focus and relaxtion, students physical and mental well-being will by
enchanced. Location: Pittsboro; Cost: $60.
Wednesday-May 18-August 3; 6:30-7:15 pm: Sun Style Tai Chi: Intro to 73
movements. Previous experience w/ Sun Tai Chi or experience w/ another
Tai Chi long form (e.g. Yang, Chen, etc.) is required for this class.
The course is designed to enhance the abilities of experienced Tai Chi
players and provide them with a challenging Tai Chi routine. Location:
Pittsboro; Cost: $60
Wednesday-May 18-June 22; 6-9pm: Intermediate Wheel Throwing: Raymond
Edwards will guide students to the next level of their wheel throwing
experience. Students will earn about wall thickness, trimming and
finishing as well learn about adding handles, darting, sprigging.
Location: Siler City Pottery Studio; Cost $70.
Thursday-May 19-June 23; 6:30-9pm: New Class- Beginner’s Quilting:
Instructor Beatrice Lee has had lots of experience and has won prizes
with her quilts. She will guide students on how to lay out a pattern,
what fabrics, batting and tools to use. Students will complete a quilt
during the course. Students must have a sewing machine; there is also a
supply list. Location: Pittsboro campus; Cost: $70.
Saturday-May 21-June 21; 9:00am-1:00pm: Poetry Workshop: Working with
Imagery: Instructor Ralph Earle will teach techniques for using imagery
to bring poems to life. Students will not only practice applying these
foundational techniques to their own work but also practice giving and
receiving constructive feedback. Ralph Earle is a long-time Chatham
County resident whose poems have appeared in Carolina Quarterly, The
Sun, and many other publications. He has taught poetry workshops at
UNC-CH, CCCC (Sanford campus) and the ArtsCenter of Carrboro. Location:

Tuesday-May 24-July 19; 6:30-8:30pm: Beginning Guitar: Instructor, John
Westmoreland will teach students the anatomy of the guitar, how to tune
your guitar as well as an understanding of basic guitar technique.

Saturday & Sunday, May 28 & 29; 9:00am-5:00pm: Advanced Pottery
Techniques: Joseph Sands, who has apprenticed with renowned potter, Mark
Hewitt will teach students techniques that will further advance their
throwing, decorating and finishing of pottery, based on the
Leach-Cardew-Hewitt tradition. Location: Siler City Pottery Studio;
Cost: 90.
