As home gardening interest rises, so does putting up the foods for future eating. Learn the USDA techniques that, when followed, will assure you of safe products. Once you understand the various factors that can result in product failure, you will have more confidence in producing products that will be safe and less likely to fail, requiring them to be discarded. That saves time and money.

Chatham County Center will be offering “Safely Preserving at Home”, two home-based food canning classes. They will be offered Thursday, June 16th from 6:00 pm to 9:00pm and Friday, June 17th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Topics covered include: Canning Basics, both pressure and water bath canning, other methods of preserving and preparing different foods. For the $20 cost per participant/$25 per couple, participants will receive a Ball Blue Book, a CD with the USDA Home Canning Guide and a light meal. Spacing is limited. Registration is required by 5 p.m. on Monday, June 13th
