Subject: Fox update
Thanks to everyone who emailed me about the family of foxes that moved into our yard. I thought it might be helpful to share what I learned in case anyone else has a similar problem some time.
First of all, Mr. Fox was rarely seen and Mrs. Fox was extremely timid and shy so my fears that they would attack the pets turned out to be ungrounded. There were four little baby foxes who were adorable. One chatlister wrote me that when the kits (pups) were old enough to travel the family would move on, and that’s exactly what happened.
I had called the Wildlife Resources commission to see if there was anyone who would re-home them, because I had done this with a hive of bees that had taken up residence in one of my listings. But they don’t deal with foxes and only gave me the names of pest control people in the area. I really didn’t want to harm the foxes at all. One person wrote me that it was actually illegal to re-home foxes, although I wasn’t able to verify that. This same person had a great idea though to shine bright lights near their den to encourage them to move.
We decided we really enjoyed having them there and they provided hours of entertainment while they were neighbors.
Hope this helps someone else!
best wishes,
Lynn Hayes
