Subject: WWP, The Far Left, and Property Rights
We have had quite a number of posts recently from folks on the far left expressing their concern for the “Property Rights” of certain landowners within Chatham County when it comes to the Western Wake Partnership’s proposal to put in a discharge line through part of Chatham County.
I find this lacking all credibility given their own history of wholesale trampling on the property rights of Chatham’s citizens over the past four years.
If you really are an advocate of PropertyRights then here is what should happen:
1) The property owners themselves should determine if they want to grant an easement on their own property and negotiate such terms as they deem appropriate directly with WPP, it should be up to them, not the County.
2) The current County Commissioners should make it clear that eminent domain will not be used by Chatham County under any circumstances.
3) If the private landowners and WPP arrive at a mutually beneficial agreement, then the Commissioners should negotiate an agreement for the County to use the discharge line as well.
Sally Kost’s sentiment that the County should not WPP to negotiate directly with the landowners (in the name of property rights) is the height of arrogance.
Memo to Sally: Property Rights and Property Ownership mean(s) that you get to decide what you want to do with your own land… we don’t need you to “protect” us.
It is certainly no surprise that Jeffery Starkweather would be against this on the grounds that additional sewer capacity would lead to that most massive of all evils (in Jeffery’s mind)… gasp… Development.
Memo to Jeffery: You and the coalition lost the last election because of your virulently anti-development, anti-business policies.
I urge the Commissioners to do what they were elected to do and stand up for the Property Rights of it’s Citizens – by allowing them to decide for themselves..
