There is an absolutely exceptional karate school in Siler City, South Eastern Karate Association, that’s been teaching for more than 25 years. Not just good for this area, but good for anywhere. (http://southeasternkarate.com)
It teaches a Korean style emphasizing self-defense, rather than sport, though someone interested in sport can get that instruction, too.
My son became interested around age five and has been training for more than a decade now. I joined him soon after and have been training just about as long.
The master instructor, a legitimate seventh-degree black belt, also has extensive experience teaching young children in the classroom, so she is great with children.
You can call the school at 919-663-2696 or stop by on Tuesdays or Thursdays. The youth-oriented class is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the adult-oriented class is 7 to 8:30 p.m.
